Iaido

There is no accredited sensei in Battle Creek for Iaido

Here is the low down on iaido in the Battle Creek Kendo Kai. Dave Christman is on his own...he practices every Sunday a little before the kendo group. He actually does hold rank in the art, but it is only ikkyu ( like a brown belt maybe? ) He is committed to learning more, and does his best to travel to seminars etc. He is limiting his focus to ZNKR's seitei gata, and Muso Shinden Ryu. If any of his kendo students or other people nearby are serious about wanting to learn the ZNKR's seitei gata, he's is willing to share his limited knowledge with them. He gets together with Mr. Peter Boylan ( Detroit) on a monthly basis to practice iaido and jodo.

Dave is also close to his former kendo student, Charles Ham.  Charles is now settled in Ann Arbor, Mich. He is the real reason Dave has chosen to more closely study the MSR iai. Charles had a great opportunity to study iai in Japan for several years. When he left Japan, he was was ranked sandan (3rd Degree). Charles has settled down, and aligned himself with the EMU kendo club. He is in the Ann Arbor area. You can e-mail him at charleslham@yahoo.com
