This is a good look at how many people the MWKF can get together for an event. This wasn't held in a major US city, this was a town on the upper Mississippi river, way out in the sticks, and almost 200 legitimate kendo practitioners showed up to compete in a friendly competition. This is a huge change compared to what I knew in the 1980's. The venue was a big high school in the small community of Holmen Wisconsin, with very nice facilities.

After the lunch break there was a demo by Carly & John Born. John is a member of the new dojo at Carleton College, where he practices kendo. But he is a 4th dan in Kyudo and his wife is a 5th dan. She performed a beautiful demonstration while he explained the art of kyudo. I personally was very moved by the beauty of this art. I only wish I could live life over, and study yet a whole new set of martial arts, different from this life of 53 years (so far.) I could see giving this budo a lifetime of study, I was so moved by it. If you live anywhere near the Borns, drop what you are doing and call them now.

We had to stop at this lookout gazebo for a photo. There was a nice view behind us of the Mississippi river, where it was quite wide. This was on the road between La Crosse and the city of Holmen. Also there was a huge ?fiberglass? sunfish there, Travis took a photo of it, but a sun streak in the camera ruined it.
