Note from the Editor: I am going to experiment with a different format for our newsletter. Instead of having a totally new "web letter" 8 to 10 times a year, I will make it more like a "blog" and when a item or article get old, I'll store it in the archives. The lower you scroll down the older the news. Until the bottom where the event list and "The Master Says" will still appear. |

LATEST DOJO NEWS |

Congratulations: To Chase Christman. He graduated Dec. 15th from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree. His specialty is in Logistics. He will be taking a job in early January in Toledo. Ohio. Chase is a former dojo member and youth champion, he won many medals as a youth from age 9 to 14 in kendo in the Midwest and Canada. |

New Tournament: The Chicago area dojo are going to try a new idea for a tournament format. It will be a "STUDENT" only format. You must be either a elementary, middle school, high school or full college undergraduate to participate. Of course other people (especially 3rd dan and above will need to come to help). The date will be March 15th, and it will be at the Golf-Maine Park District building, a place where they have held many events in the past. This is open to ONLY people practicing in MWKF dojo only. |
All Women's Keiko: The Choyokan Des Plaines dojo would like to invite all women in our dojo to a keiko for women only in Des Plaines on Dec. 29th. Further info can be had from Dave at the dojo. |
Cleveland Tournament: The Cleveland event is on hold for now. The proposed date of March 28-30 has conflicts with other events. The new dates will be April 4-6, see below. |
Congratulations: To our own Kotaro Yoshida who was recently promoted to 5th dan at the Seattle Kodansha exam. Also congratulations to Yoshinori Nakamura, a fellow who dropped in to practice with us in August of 2002. He was recently promoted to 6th dan in Japan. He is planning to visit Michigan maybe this summer. If he does, he will come to practice with us. |

Also a word of congratulations to Peter Boylan, he recently has passed for yondan rank in iaido. |
Welcome new members: We have 4 new youth members. Mariko Sugita, who is a friend of Naruka Yoshino, and 3 youngsters from the same family. Yukari, Yuto, and Rio Arakawa. |
Personal Note: I have decided to take some time off, I've been practicing kendo weekly for 25 years and 10 months. I never skipped, or dropped out for a few months during that whole time. I feel now that my service as president has ended, I need some time to breathe. I've felt a mounting pressure with the family businesses (Michigan's economy), my elderly father will need more attention, and I'm just not enjoying kendo like I used to at the moment. I bought a bicycle, and you just may see me pedaling around town trying to put some miles on, and just enjoying the outdoors. I'll still be the BC Dojo manager, and website blogger, I just am backing out of actual teaching and practicing till I feel the urge to get back. |

I've collected a lot of stories, quotes, koans, poems and haiku. Here is one I really like: " One should not be envious of someone who prospers by unjust deeds. Nor should he disdain someone who has fallen while adhering to the path of righteousness." Imagawa Sadayo 1325 - 1420 |
